On Wednesday, 30 March, Saeima’s Mandates, Ethics and Submissions Committee agreed to submit to the Budget and Finance Committee an initiative from residents to reduce the excise tax for fuel.
The Saeima will need to vote on this legislative draft.
As the committee was told by authors of the initiative, they would accept alternative solutions for the reduction of fuel prices.
Author of the initiative Jānis Taube says reduction of excise tax for fuel would be a good way to compensate the rapid increase of fuel prices for the end consumer. He mentioned Poland as an example.
«This makes fuel more accessible, making it possible for households to divert money towards other expenses. This also helps slightly reduce the inflation,» says Taube.
On Wednesday the committee agreed to pass this legislative draft to the Economic, Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Policy Committee the initiative submitted by residents to prohibit keeping dogs chained, as this can be considered cruel treatment of animals.
Representatives of the initiative also propose a compromise solution under which dogs can be allowed to be kept on a rope long enough to offer a good degree of freedom and ability for the dog to defend itself if need be.
