Ryanair’s CEO Michael O’Leary has announced that due to delays in the delivery of new Boeing planes, Ryanair fares could be up to 10% more expensive this summer, on Monday, the 26th of February, reports the British broadcaster BBC.
The airline’s chief executive said that delays in aircraft deliveries would also limit passenger capacity.
O’Leary said the airline was waiting for delivery of 57 Boeing 737 Max 8200s, with only 40-45 expected to be delivered by the summer season.
Boeing has faced increased scrutiny following an incident in January when a Boeing 737 Max 8200 fuselage broke off during a passenger flight, causing an emergency landing. O’Leary said that following the incident, the
Federal Aviation Administration was thoroughly inspecting all Boeing aircraft.
Boeing said that they have informed customers that some delivery schedules could change to ensure the quality and compliance of each aircraft.
The company expressed its regret about the impact of this process on Ryanair, assuring that it is working on a comprehensive plan to improve the quality and delivery performance of the 737 model.
