Russia’s “General Armageddon” dismissed as head of the Air and Space Forces

On Tuesday, the 22nd of August, according to Russian media, Sergei Surovikin, former commander of Moscow’s military forces in Ukraine, was dismissed of his post as head of the State Aerospace Forces, writes Politico.
Known as “General Armageddon” for his aggressive strategies in Chechnya and Syria, Surovikin

has not been seen publicly since the Wagner group’s Moscow march in June, amid news of his knowledge about Prigozhin’s planned uprising.

He was earlier suspended from a prominent role in Moscow’s conflict with Ukraine and placed under house arrest in early August.
Recent reports from Russian news agency RBC state that Surovikin has been further suspended from his role as air force supervisor, with an unnamed source citing it as

“temporary leave.”

Surovikin had led the Russian Aerospace Forces since October 2017.
