The commander of the Ukrainian army has reported that the Russian army has lost about 6000 soldiers in just four days, sending its soldiers into a “meat grinder”, writes Politico.
On the 23rd of March, the commander of the Ukrainian army, General Oleksandr Syrsky, reported that Russian forces have tried to break through Ukrainian defenses in several places at the same time, and a total of 619 offensive operations have been recorded. Syrsky added that the Russian military leadership has thrown tens of thousands of soldiers into the “meat grinder.” Although Ukrainian analysts in the Deep State project have reported that the Kremlin has managed to advance in the vicinity of a few small villages, the price for this success has been catastrophic.
Sirsky said that Kyiv had mostly managed to repel the attacks, but the enemy had lost more than 6,090 soldiers in four days.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that it was carrying out attacks in more than 147 locations in the Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions, but did not disclose the extent of the losses and did not report on the progress.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the activity of Russian soldiers had noticeably increased,
there were more attacks, and they were trying to use the spring weather to their advantage. In a speech on the 22nd of March, Zelensky stressed that this also meant greater losses on the Russian side – from the 15th to the 22nd of March alone, Moscow’s army lost more than 8,000 soldiers.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has confirmed that the Ukrainian army is currently forcing the Russians to choose between defending their positions from Ukrainian attacks or moving their manpower and equipment to launch attacks elsewhere on the front line. The ISW’s latest assessment states that the movement of Russian units to southern Ukraine to respond to Ukrainian counterattacks has likely disrupted the army’s command’s plans for a spring offensive. The assessment also says that Russian forces have not previously been able to launch simultaneous attacks on several locations in the front, and are unlikely to do so now.
