Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has told Kyiv that if common sense prevails, the war in Ukraine can be ended through negotiations, which would be the most acceptable option for him, but he is also ready to use force, writes Reuters.
Speaking at the end of a visit to Beijing, Putin said that he saw some light at the end of the tunnel, especially given the sincere desire of the United States to end the biggest European war since World War II. During the visit, Putin also signed an agreement with China to build a new gas pipeline. The Russian dictator told reporters that he believes that if common sense prevails, it will be possible to reach an acceptable solution to end the conflict. He was referring to the mood of US President Donald Trump’s administration, which indicates that there is not just talk, but also a real desire to find a solution. “Let’s see how the situation develops,” Putin said, adding that Russia is ready to end the war by force.
At the same time, Putin has not shown the slightest desire to soften his demands, including continuing to insist that Kyiv abandon its plans to join NATO.
Ukraine must also end discrimination against Russian speakers.
Putin said he was ready to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky if he comes to Moscow, but such a visit must be well-prepared and produce tangible results. Ukraine’s foreign minister has called the suggestion unacceptable.
Zelensky has long been inviting Putin to a meeting to discuss the terms of a possible peace treaty. He has called on Washington to expand sanctions against Moscow if Putin does not agree. Trump also wants to arrange a meeting between the two politicians and has threatened to impose secondary sanctions, which have not yet been implemented. The Russian dictator, whose country is beginning to feel the approaching economic crisis, wants to resolve the conflict diplomatically. Russia insists that Ukraine must give up its eastern regions, which are currently partially or fully occupied by Russia, but Kyiv does not allow such a scenario.
