Russia struck a maternity hospital in overnnight attack, says Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday, the 10th of June, that Russia had carried out a “massive” overnight attack that hit several regions of Ukraine and a maternity hospital in Odesa, reports Politico and Reuters.
The night attack came just one day after Russia fired nearly 500 drones at Ukraine, the largest nighttime drone attack since 2022, when Moscow launched a full-scale invasion, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
“For yet another night, there were massive strikes with Shahed drones, cruise and ballistic missiles instead of the ceasefire,” Zelenskyy said. “In Odessa, even a maternity hospital became a target for Russia. Thirteen people were injured. Tragically, there are also fatalities,” he added.
Odessa Regional Governor Oleh Kiper said that two people were killed in the attack.
Kyiv officials said seven of the city’s ten districts had been hit.
Zelenskyy said the attack was “one of the biggest ever” in Kyiv and that drones had also been sent to Odessa, Dnipro and Chernigov regions. He reported that Russia fired 315 drones – 250 of them Iranian-made Shaheds – and seven missiles, “two of which were North Korean ballistic missiles”, he said.
“Russian missile and Shahed strikes are smothering the efforts by the US and other countries around the world to force Russia to make peace.”

Moscow has stepped up attacks on Ukraine after Kyiv attacked strategic bombers at Russian air bases, claiming it is retaliation. The latest strikes also coincide with Russia’s increased efforts along the eastern and north-eastern front lines of the battlefield.
Russia temporarily suspended flights overnight at four Moscow airports, St Petersburg’s Pulkovo airport and airports in nine other cities after the defence ministry said Ukraine had fired several drones at Russia, officials said.
On Monday, Russia and Ukraine carried out another prisoner-of-war exchange, following direct talks between the two sides in Istanbul on the 2nd of June.
The exchange of POWs and the remains of dead soldiers is one of the few things the two sides have managed to agree on, but the talks have failed to bring the war closer to an end.
