Russia has attacked cities in Ukraine, both the capital Kyiv and settlements in the central and southern regions of the country, and at least 12 people have been killed, Reuters writes.
The attacks come as Ukrainian forces prepare to launch a counter-offensive with new military equipment, including tanks, supplied by Western countries. In the central part of Ukraine, in Uman, a rocket attack on a residential building killed three people and injured eight others. A Dnipro missile hit a house and killed a young woman and a child. Three more people were injured.
Kyiv was also hit by rocket attacks and air raid sirens sounded across the country. Two persons were injured in Ukrainka, Kyiv region. The capital’s military administration informed that the anti-aircraft defense system intercepted 11 missiles and two drones over the city, the debris of which damaged the power line. Interfax reports that on the 28th of April,
immediately after midnight, explosions were also heard in Dnipro, Kremenchuk, Poltava and Mykolaiv.
Russian forces have suffered several defeats during the winter and have been trying to completely take over Bakhmut for ten months.
Russia’s attacks came just a day after the Kremlin said it would consider any ideas that would bring an end to the war, citing a phone call between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Chinese President Xi Jinping this week. It was the first time since the start of the war that the two presidents had spoken.
However, the Kremlin has indicated that the goals of its “special military operation” have not yet been achieved. Russian President Vladimir Putin justified the start of the war with the need to protect Russia. Ukraine and its western allies deny that Kraivia is a threat and see the invasion as an illegal seizure of territory.
