Russia is ready to grant asylum to Musk if necessary after disagreements with Trump

Russia is ready to offer political asylum to tech billionaire Elon Musk after his public dispute with US President Donald Trump, Dmitry Novikov, deputy chairman of the State Duma’s International Affairs Committee, said on the 6th of June, reports The Kyiv Independent.

“I think Musk is playing a completely different game and he won’t need political asylum, but if necessary, Russia could definitely provide it,” Novikov told the state news agency TASS.

BNN already reported that Trump and Musk were “airing their dirty laundry” on social media, exchanging threats and insults. The relationship between the two soured when Musk criticised Trump’s “big, beautiful” tax and spending reform, which economists believe will increase the US budget deficit.

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council and a frequent proponent of anti-Western rhetoric, joked on X that Moscow could become a peace broker between “D and E” — referring to Trump and Musk — in exchange for Starlink shares.

“Don’t fight, guys,” Medvedev wrote.

Although Musk initially supported Ukraine by providing Starlink for military purposes, he has increasingly echoed the Russian narrative.

He falsely claimed that President Zelenskyy lacked support in Ukraine and accused Kyiv of carrying out “endless meat grinder drafts.” Musk has also spoken out against U.S. military aid to Ukraine, arguing that it only prolongs the war – an argument often used by the Kremlin to weaken Western support for Kyiv.

Musk’s comments have been praised by Russian officials and propagandists, including state television presenters and military bloggers, who view the billionaire as a likeable figure.
