Mayor of Cēsis Jānis Rozenbergs has decided to withdraw his candidacy for the post of Minister of Education and Science due to “personal reasons”. This means there is no officially confirmed candidate for the three vacant minister posts in Prime Minister Evika Siliņa’s government.
Siliņa announced a “restart” of her government on the 21st of February. This “restart” featured a list of priorities, as well as request for Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens, Minister of Education Anda Čakša and Minister of Welfare Uldis Augulis to step down. A couple of days later the PM announced that her party – New Unity – decided to propose Rozenbergs for the post of Minister of Education.
In the most recent statement to the press, New Unity mentioned having received information from Rozenbergs, who explained that, due to personal reasons, he has decided to withdraw his candidacy.
New Unity notes that the party will soon announce a new candidate.
“Latvian security, economic growth, family support and reduction of bureaucracy are priorities that New Unity will continue in ensuring the security and stability of the country,” the statement mentions.
