The Central Election Commission (CVK) and the State Agency for Digital Affairs (VDAA) failed in organizing the municipal elections, according to President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs.
In a post on social media, the President thanked all citizens who participated in the municipal elections yesterday.
“Thank you to all election commission members for your resilience and dedication while working under difficult conditions. Unfortunately, the CVK and VDAA failed in organizing this process. The Saeima and the government must assess the performance of these institutions and the responsibility of their officials,” Rinkēvičs stated.
The President stressed that concrete solutions are needed to ensure next year’s parliamentary elections proceed smoothly and without the disruptions experienced during the current municipal elections.
“This issue will also be addressed at the National Security Council meeting scheduled for next week,” the head of state announced.
As reported, the vote counting process during the 2025 municipal elections on Saturday and into the night faced technical problems. Polling stations also encountered system malfunctions earlier in the week during early voting.
