Latvia’s Public Utilities Commission (SPRK) has approved the new water service tariff submitted by Rīgas ūdens LLC – from 1 October onward the water service tariff will be 1.20 EUR/M3, sewer service tariff will be 1.21 EUR/m3, as confirmed by SPRK.
The change of tariffs only includes electricity, heating and gas costs. Other cost positions remain unchanged.
Compared to the existing tariff, the new water service one will be 18% (EUR 0.18) higher and the sewer service tariff will be 33% (EUR 0.33) higher.
Tariffs are up due to the rapid growth of electricity, natural gas and heating energy prices.
New tariffs will be applied in Riga, Baltezers, Garkalne, Berģi, Makstenieki, Langstiņi, Upesciems, Krustkalni, Valdlauči, Dreiliņi, Rumbula, Ulbroka parts of Garkalne Parish (Alīse, Remberģi 1, Remberģi 2, Selga).
Rīgas ūdens LLC submitted its new tariff plan to SPRK on 1 August. On 24 August, following the rapid surge of electricity and natural gas price outlooks on the market, Rīgas ūdens submitted an updated tariff project, including in it the corrections made with respect of increased electricity and natural gas costs.
As a result, compared to the initial tariff plan submitted to SPRK, the price of water services has increased by EUR 0.05 and sewer service tariff has increased by EUR 0.10.
‘Although existing tariffs of Rīgas ūdens LLC were approved just recently, energy resource-related costs have increased so rapidly that the company had no choice but to adapt to the new situation by preparing a new tariff project. The biggest increase is for electricity costs,’ SPRK chairperson Alda Ozola comments tariff changes.
After reviewing the tariff project and reasons listed to justify cost increase, SPRK concluded tariffs are justified and calculated in a way to help cover water service costs for Rīgas ūdens LLC.
