Rīgas siltums sets heating energy tariff at 170.59 EUR/MWh this heating season

2 October will mark the coming into force of the new heating tariff of Rīgas siltums JSC. This new tariff will be nearly twice as large as the current one – 170.59 EUR/MWh, as reported by Public Utilities Commission (SPRK).
The support provided by the state to compensate rapidly increasing heating costs will be added to households’ heating bills automatically from 1 October onward.

In this case, if the tariff set by Rīgas siltums is set at 170.59 EUR, with state support the tariff for households will be 111.06 EUR/MWh.

The increase of heating tariffs is largely related to the rapidly growing heating and fuel costs. The costs of procured heating energy for businesses have increased more than 2.5 times. The costs of fuel (natural gas) have increased by 79%.
As previously reported, approximately 45% of heating supplied to Rīgas siltums JSC users comes mostly from energy company Latvenergo JSC.
1 October will mark the coming into force of tariffs for heating energy produced by TEC-1 and TEC-2. SPRK evaluated and approved the tariffs on 30 August. This means this will have a big impact on the new tariff of Rīgas siltums JSC.
Rīgas siltums JSC is Latvia’s biggest heating supply company. The company produces 27% (using wood chips and natural gas) of heating energy and procures 73% of heating energy from independent companies.
SPRK stresses that all household users will be provided with state support automatically starting with 1 October 2022.
