Rīgas satiksme prepares to purchase new diesel and electric buses

Riga municipal public transport company Rīgas satiksme prepares to purchase new diesel and electric buses, as confirmed by the company’s representative Baiba Bartaševiča-Feldmane.
The company has announced a market study for delivery options of triaxial low-floor buses “in order to assess market offers, costs, manufacturers’ capacity and conditions for supplies”. Based on market study results, the decision will be made on the potential number of vehicles to be procured and preparation of the necessary documents for the procurement.
The company plans to procure two types of buses – 18-m long low-floor diesel buses and 18-m long low-floor rechargeable battery-powered buses.
The procurement will comply with the proportion included in existing regulations – 30% of procured vehicles should be powered by renewable energy.
To assess the costs and possible delivery terms, the company invites offers for the supply of 57, 114 or 171 buses.
Rīgas satiksme uses approximately 400 buses to carry passengers every day. Approximately 250 of them are already past their service life. Rīgas satiksme started updating its bus park in 2022. A contract was signed for the supply of new electric buses. Currently the company has 35 electric buses. There are plans to procure 17 more. This is intended to replace 50 old buses.
Rīgas satiksme’s turnover went up by 5% in 2022 – from EUR 161.12 million in 2021 to EUR 168.7 million last year. The company’s profits went down more than twice in 2022, reaching EUR 1.25 million.
