Riga’s executive director: although hard to predict the exact moment, the monument will fall today

Currently it is hard to predict the exact moment when the Monument to the Liberators of Soviet Latvia and Riga from the German Fascist Invaders will be toppled, said Riga city executive director Jānis Lange.
The executive director said he has recently visited the closed off territory with the monument.
Lange said it is impossible to predict the moment when the obelisk could fall. It could happen soon, but it will take a bit longer.

Lange stressed, however, the monument will be toppled today and nothing will be left of it by tomorrow.

As previously reported, today the demolition of the Soviet monument in Pārdaugava entered its final phase – only the 79 m-tall obelisk remains.
Previously Mayor of Riga Mārtiņš Staķis invited residents to not come to Victory Park in Pārdaugava. He invited residents to not interfere with the monument’s demolition and instead watch it unfold in live broadcasts.
Active demolition of the monument complex commenced on Tuesday, 23 August.
