In the first eight months of 2022 Riga International Airport serviced 3.4 million passengers, according to the airport’s operational data.
Compared to the first eight months of 2021, the number of passengers serviced at the airport has tripled.
As the summer travel season continued, Riga airport was used by 573 000 travellers or 47% more than a year prior, when their numbers were 390 000.
Average cabin load for passenger flights exceeds 80%.
Flights to countries of the Mediterranean remain in high demand.
The majority of travellers – 310.8 thousand or 54.2% – used airBaltic airline, followed by Ryanair, which was used by164 thousand or 28.6% of passengers of August 2022.
A total of 5 113 flights were serviced in August, which is 5% more when compared to the same period of 2021, when 4 878 flights were serviced at the airport.
4 599 of all serviced flights were passenger flights.
In the January-August period the number of flights has increased by 130% when compared to 2021 – from 13.6 thousand last year to 31.2 thousand this year.
In August 156 freight flights were serviced at the airport, processing an average of 1 550 tonnes of freight every month. Between January and August Riga International Airport serviced more than 14 thousand tonnes of aviation freight.
When compared to previous years, the volume of freight handled at the airport has gone down. The volume of freight serviced in last year’s January-August period was more than 16 thousand tonnes (nearly 17 thousand tonnes in 2019).
