Riga City Council Welfare Department requests more than EUR 14 million in additional funding

Riga City Council Welfare Department has listed in budget amendments a request for additional funding of more than EUR 14 million, according to information submitted to members of the Social Affairs Committee.
Deputies were told that the prices of social services are to be increased by approximately 25%. This means that to cover rising expenses, it is necessary to allocate an additional amount of EUR 9.6 million.
EUR 3.5 million will be needed for social and healthcare services, their expansion, payment of childcare benefits to foster families, improvements for administration of social services in electronic systems and necessary equipment, as well as interior repair work and maintenance.

EUR 437 000 is requested to increase employees’ wages.

With all that, the department’s budget increase is estimated at EUR 14.8 million.
The topic of the department’s budget is planned to be viewed by Riga City Council’s Social Affairs Committee on Wednesday, the 22nd of February.
