Compared to August 2020, total retail trade turnover rose by 3.7 %in August 2021. Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 3.8 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 9.8 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – by 3.5 %.
Compared to August 2020, the most notable turnover rise was recorded in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 40.6 %), retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (18.1 %) and retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (16.8 %), according to calendar adjusted data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSB).
Turnover drop was registered in retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (of 2.0 %).
Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 8.7 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).
Compared to July, in August 2021, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises rose by 0.3 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 1.1 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 2.7 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – reduced by 3.2 %.
Compared to the previous month, the largest turnover growth was observed in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 28.4 %), retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (7.1 %) and non-specialised stores selling mainly non-food products (5.5 %).
The largest turnover drop was registered in retail sale in stalls or markets (of 13.6 %).
Compared to July, in August 2021 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) decreased by 0.4 %.
