Retail trade turnover in Latvia in March, when compared with the same month of 2022, has gone down by 8.9%, which is a more rapid drop than the average in the European Union and Eurozone, according to data from Eurostat.
In March 2023 retail trade turnover in went down in 17 EU member states for which data is available. No data is available for the Czech Republic and Greece.
The most rapid drop was observed in Estonia (-13.5%), Hungary (-13.2%) and Slovenia (-12.8%).
In Lithuania retail trade turnover in March was 4.7% lower than the year prior. The biggest retail trade upturn was observed in Spain (+10.8%), Romania (+7.2%) and Cyprus (+5.6%).
In EU countries for which data is available retail trade turnover, when compared with March 2023, went down by 4.1%. In Eurozone the drop was 3.8%. When compared with February, retail trade volume in March went down by 1.1% in the EU and by 1.2% in Eurozone.
The biggest drop between months was in Latvia (-2.7%), Germany and Poland (-2.4% in both), as well as Luxembourg (-1.9%). The most rapid increase was observed in Romania (+2.9%), Portugal (+2.3%) and Ireland (+1%). In Lithuania retail trade turnover in this period went down by 0.6%. In Estonia it was 0.4%.
