On Tuesday, 28 June, sirens across Latvia will be switched on for a period of three minutes between 10:00 and 10:20 a.m. This will be done to test the country’s early warning system and uncover any malfunctions. Residents have no reason to be alarmed and they are not required to take actions, as this will be a routine test of the system, Latvian State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) reports.

they should turn of their TV, radio or other smart device
to receive information regarding the reason as to why sirens were switched on and what they are expected to do.
The siren system is intended as an early warning system for Latvian residents to inform them of any natural or technogenic disasters, as well as other threats.
If no siren is heard during the test, residents should not worry, as other means of notification of potential disasters will be used in the event of actual emergencies.
