The registered unemployment level in Latvia at the end of 2021 was 6.7% of the economically active population, which is 0.3 percentage points more than the end of November and one percentage point less than the end of 2020, according to information from the State Employment Agency (NVA).
At the end of December 2021 there were 60 774 unemployed people were registered with NVA, which is 3 238 people more than a month prior, when 57 536 unemployed people were registered, and 8 831 people less than the end of 2020, when 69 605 were registered.
Unemployment was the lowest in Riga region – 4.7% of the economically active residents, which is 0.3 percentage points more than a month prior. The highest unemployment level remains in Latgale region – 14.5%, which is an increase of 0.2 percentage points in a month.
In December the most rapid increase of registered unemployment was observed in Kurzeme – 0.7 percentage points, reaching 7.3% of the economically active population at the end of the month.
At the same time, the registered unemployment level in Vidzeme was 7.1% of the economically active population, which is 0.4 percentage points more than a month prior. In Zemgale it was 6.5%, which is 0.5 percentage points more when compared to November.

In Riga the registered unemployment level increased 0.2 percentage points and was 4.5% of the economically active residents in December.
When compared to the end of 2020, the registered unemployment level reduced in all of Latvia’s regions in 2021.
In Riga the registered unemployment level dropped by 1.2 percentage points, in Riga region it declined by 1.1 percentage points, in Kurzeme and Latgale it dropped by 0.9 percentage points, in Zemgale it dropped by 0.8 percentage points and in Vidzeme it dropped by 0.5 percentage points.
At the end of 2020 the registered unemployment level in Latvia was 7.7% of the economically active population.
