At the end of January the registered unemployment level in Latvia was at 5.7% of the economically active population, according to data published by the State Employment Agency (NVA).
At the end of January 2024 there were 51 197 unemployed people registered in Latvia, which is 853 fewer when compared to the month prior, when 50 344 were registered.
The lowest unemployment level was observed in Riga region – 3.6% of the economically active population. The highest unemployment level was observed in Latgale region – 11.2%, which is a rise of 0.2 percentage points when compared to the month prior.
The most rapid rise of unemployment in January was observed in Kurzeme – by 0.3 percentage points. At the end of the month unemployment level in Kurzeme was 7.6% of the economically active population.
At the same time, Zemgale’s registered unemployment level was 5.7% of the economically active population at the end of January. In Vidzeme it was 8.7%.
The registered level of unemployment in Riga remained unchanged and was 4.2% of the economically active population.
NVA notes that in accordance with amendments passed to the Cabinet of Ministers regulations in November 2023, the distribution of statistical regions has been changed.
Latvia’s registered unemployment level in 2023 was 5.7%.
