Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital (RAKUS) has plans to use funding from the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility and implement an infrastructure project worth nearly EUR 100 million.
The hospital has plans for a new centre for infectious diseases and lung heath, as well as develop daycare service at the hospital complex located on Hipokrāta Street. This centre is planned to house all the centres that are currently spread across various offices. To modernise all of them, it is necessary to secure larger investments.
As part of the EU Recovery and Resilience plan, EUR 149.5 million will be diverted towards improvement of hospital and healthcare infrastructure in Latvia. This will improve infrastructure in all three university hospitals, including Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital (the biggest multi-profile healthcare institution in Latvia) and seven regional hospitals.
Latvia’s healthcare sector will receive EUR 181.5 million from the European Recovery Fund.
RAKUS Infectious Diseases and Lung Health Centre project is planned to be finished by June 2026. The project’s costs are estimated at EUR 99 972 040 (EUR 82 621 521 from the EU and EUR 14 851 218 from Latvia’s state budget).
The Recovery Fund is a new EU budget programme that was initially formed to coordinate EU’s reaction to the Covid-19 crisis in order to reduce the long-term effect of social and economic factors. The objective of the recovery fund is supporting reforms and performing investments in order to ensure EU member states transition to a green and digital economy.
