Raivis Dzintars steps down. Ilze Indriksone runs for leadership post in National Alliance

The replacement of leaders in the National Alliance (NA) political party is not related to a split in the party, said Saeima deputy, former Minister of Economics and candidate for the post of NA chairman Ilze Indriksone in an interview to Latvijas Radio.

According to her, she has not changed indications that she may not be elected as the next head of NA. Nevertheless, she is not actively going around the party’s offices to introduce herself. She says the changes are expected, because Raivis Dzintars was in charge of the party for a long time, so the time has come for changes.

According to the politician, the change in management will be a step towards NA becoming the leading party and in charge of the government. No split is observed in the party. Nevertheless, there are those thinking of ways to grab the reins over the party, said Indriksone.

As the leader of the party, she hopes making the economic factor more of a priority without altering NA’s political direction.

In an interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāmā, Indriksone said NA is prepared to enter the new government if Evika Siliņa’s government collapses. The party, she said, is not prepared to be a lowly follower of the existing government.

If the New Unity’s (JV) government fell, NA would remain partnered with the “Combined List” (AS). The two parties would work together to propose a new prime minister candidate, said Indriksone, who believes JV was in charge of many of Latvia’s previous governments, adding that NA and AS should be the ones to form the core of the new coalition.

This month, NA Chairman Raivis Dzintars, who was in charge of the party since its foundation in 2010, will leave his post. According to LTV, Dzintars explained in his letter to members of the party that he has decided not to run for a repeated term. At the same time, he also voiced readiness to work in the party’s board.

The party is scheduled to decide on a new chairman at the party’s congress on the 15th of December.
