Rain, wind and moments of sunshine – what weather is in store for us until Midsummer celebration?

On Tuesday, variable cloud cover is expected, with cloudier skies in the eastern part of the country. During the night, a precipitation zone will continue moving in from the west, bringing rain across the entire country, including heavy downpours in some areas and possible thunderstorms, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

During the day, rain will mainly persist only in the eastern regions. A light to moderate west-southwesterly wind is expected, shifting to a west-northwesterly direction and intensifying in gusts up to 15 m/s in the eastern part of the country. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +12…+15°C, while daytime temperatures will rise to +17…+22°C.

On Wednesday, mostly cloudy skies are expected, though there will be occasional clear spells.

Rain and thunderstorms are possible, mainly in the eastern part of the country. Fog may form overnight in some eastern regions, significantly reducing visibility. A light to moderate west-southwesterly wind will strengthen during the day, with gusts up to 14 m/s. Nighttime temperatures will be +12…+15°C, and cooler in the east – around +9…+11°C. Daytime highs will range from +17…+22°C, with cooler temperatures of +15…+19°C expected along the Kurzeme coast.

Thursday will bring variable cloud cover. Rain is expected in some places overnight, becoming more widespread during the day, with occasional thunderstorms possible.

A light to moderate west-southwesterly wind will blow, with gusts up to 14 m/s. During the day, the wind will gradually shift to northwesterly and westerly directions, intensifying in gusts up to 15–17 m/s. Nighttime temperatures will fall to +10…+13°C, while daytime highs will reach +14…+18°C.

At the end of the week, the influence of a cyclone will increase, leading to more precipitation and gusty winds throughout the country. However, maximum air temperatures will mostly remain above +15°C. Over the weekend, weather conditions are expected to improve – skies will gradually clear, and both the amount and spread of precipitation will decrease. Days will also become slightly warmer.

Winds will be light, and maximum temperatures will exceed +20°C in many areas. Jāņi Night (the 23rd-24th of June) will be cool, with temperatures dropping to +10…+15°C. On Jāņi Day (the 24th of June), rainfall will gradually increase in the morning and is expected across most of the country, with gusty winds and slightly cooler temperatures than on Līgo Day.
