On Friday, the 15th of December, similarly to previous days, the sky will be cloudy in Latvia. Precipitation is expected as well – mainly snow, but along the shore, where air temperature is higher, wet snow is expected as well, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
In Kurzeme local slowing may cause the layer of snow to go up by 5 cm. Short but intense snowing is expected in some areas of central regions of Latvia! The wind will be slow and will blow from the west. At night in areas where the wind is slow fog will form.
Meteorologists say that air temperature during the day and at night will stay at -1° C… -7° C (0° C along the coast). Positive air temperature will appear in more areas along the coast.
Precipitation is expected on the weekend as well.
Nevertheless, thaw will begin in Latvia. Warmer masses of air will flow into the country, and snow will be replaced with wet snow and rain. Roads will be slippery, meteorologists warn.
Meteorologists say that fog will appear at night. On Saturday slow wind will be replaced by moderate south-western and south wind, which will become strong along the coast. On Sunday the wind will blow from the west and will continue going up in speed, reaching 15-16 m/sec along the coast. While on the night to Saturday air temperature will drop to -1° C… -6° C, in the rest of the week air temperature will rise above 0° C.
In the first half of next week weather conditions will not be too favourable, because air temperature will continue going up and precipitation will become more intensive. This means the snow will continue thawing. The wind will remain strong along the coast and will gradually become stronger further inland as well.
