Rain, gusts, and frost – a chilly weekend ahead in Latvia

Thursday will be mostly cloudy. Overnight, rain is expected in both western and eastern regions, with prolonged rainfall and possible thunderstorms in Latgale, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

During the day, rain will spread across the entire country, with prolonged showers expected in the west. A moderate to moderately strong north to northwest wind will blow, reaching gusts of 15–19 m/s along the coast. As the day progresses, the wind will gradually shift from the east. At night, temperatures will drop to +1…+6°C, and in central and eastern parts of the country, where temperatures may fall to 0…-1°C, ground frost is possible. Daytime highs will reach only +6…+10°C.

The weather will remain similar over the weekend. Clouds will cover the sky, and most of the country can expect rain—on Friday, mainly in western and northern regions, and on Saturday, especially in Kurzeme, the rain will be prolonged.

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre notes that rain is also expected throughout the country on Sunday, though its intensity will be lower. Winds will continue to blow from the east—gusty along the coast Friday night and in eastern regions Friday afternoon. On Saturday, winds will gradually calm and become light to moderate. Nighttime temperatures will range from +1…+7°C, and daytime highs will reach +6…+12°C. On Saturday and Sunday, temperatures may rise to around +15°C.

At the beginning of next week, the weather will not change significantly—it will remain mostly cloudy, with widespread rain and gusty winds. Temperatures will rise slightly, with nighttime lows mainly between +5…+10°C, and daytime highs reaching +10…+17°C.
