Rail Baltica inquiry committee includes people associated with the project

Among the advisors that consult the head of the Latvian Saeima’s Rail Baltica inquiry committee Andris Kulbergs are also people who were previously associated with the project, as reported by LTV programme De Facto.

The programme found out that Combined List political party member Edvards Smiltēns’ assistant Mareks Gruškevics was one advisor to the committee. His wife Kitija Gruškevica was Rail Baltica project’s main implementer in the management of RB Rail for the last three years. She is also the only representative from Latvia. Before she she started working at RB Rail, she served as Smiltēns’ advisor when he served as Vice-Mayor of Riga.

“I didn’t know that. But I don’t care. If Kitija Gruškevica has done anything wrong, we’ll look into it, contact her, and if she has to answer, then she will do so,” Kulbergs told De Facto.

Gruškevica refused to speak on the matter, adding that “if this is the case, then it would be best to interview a specific person”. She said she does not talk to her husband about topics related to the investigation.

On the 13th of July, following the request from 34 deputies, the Saeima decided to compose a parliamentary committee to look into the various mistakes made in the management of Rail Baltica project. The committee was given a six-month work term.
