Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview on Russian state television on Sunday, the 17th of December, that Russia is “not interested” in attacking any NATO member and dismissed US President Joe Biden, describing his remarks as “complete nonsense”, reports Politico.
Biden said last week that if Russia invades Ukraine, it could lead to attacks on NATO countries, which would require American troops to fight with Russian forces.
Putin said that Russia has no geopolitical, economic,
political, or military interest in engaging in conflicts with NATO countries. He described Biden’s words as an attempt to promote a “mistaken policy” towards Russia and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
During the interview Putin warned of possible “problems” with Finland
after the EU country joined NATO.
“Did we have any disputes with them? All disputes, including territorial ones in the middle of the 20th century, have long been resolved,” Putin said, but “now there will be some, because we will now create the Leningrad military district and concentrate military units there,” said Putin, according to Politico.
The statement came after Finland closed all border crossings with Russia in mid-November, accusing Moscow of sending asylum seekers, mainly from Africa and the Middle East, to the Nordic country.
