From 1 September onward Riga’s municipal companies Rīgas siltums, Rīgas ūdens and Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks will not apply penalties for late payments. Also these companies will not cease providing services, as reported by Riga City Council.
Riga’s executive director Jānis Lange invited the municipality’s companies that provide utilities and management services follow socially responsible commercial activities and support residents during this period of increasing energy prices.
According to Riga City Council, capital companies have agreed to discontinue application of penalties for late payments without ceasing the provision of utilities if clients have ended up in a situation when they are unable to perform payments on time.
On 22 September Rīgas ūdens LLC decided no penalty will be calculated for late payments from the start of the month until the decision has been lifted or amended.
Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks LLC will not calculate penalties for late payments either.
Rīgas siltums LLC will not apply penalties for late payments for heating. The company will not shut off heating supply for clients who fail to pay for services in time.
Rīgas siltums reports that most clients do not have any outstanding debts or late payments – most covered their obligations this summer.
According to Riga City Council, similar support was provided to households and residents during the Covid-19 pandemic in spring of 2020 and autumn 2021.
