Pro-Kremlin activist Andrijec to remain under arrest

Riga City Court in Vidzeme Suburb decided to maintain the security measure on pro-Kremlin activist Tatyaja Andrijec in effect and her under arrest, as reported by LETA.
On the 8th of February Riga City Court put her under arrest. Since then this security measure has remained in effect. The court refused to change or remove it today as well.

According to the State Security Service (VDD), Andrijec is involved in anti-Latvian activities on Telegram channel of the so-called Baltic Anti-Fascists.

In June VDD reported that persons that created and maintained on Telegram platform a channel called Baltic Anti-Fascists are held suspect of managing an illegal organisation and participation in crimes committed by this organisation.
During the investigation of the criminal case involving the anti-governmental activities on Telegram and assessing information acquired during the investigation, VDD re-classified the crime as more severe.

VDD commenced the criminal process on the 28th of November 2022 in relation to anti-governmental activities and support of Russia’s interests using the aforementioned channel

and channels containing similar content. At the time the criminal process are commenced over assistance to foreign countries in their actions against Latvia.
Now VDD decided to re-classify the crime because new information has been acquired in the investigation. This information suggests the crimes were committed as part of an organisation composed specifically for this purpose.
According to VDD, the criminal organisation was composed in November 2022 by at least five Latvian citizens following a mutual agreement on objectives to be reached, which included committing an especially severe crime against the Latvian state.

To coordinate the crime, according to VDD, the organisation created multiple channels on Telegram platform.

Since the creation of this network, the organisation has used these channels for various anti-Latvian activities, including collection of classified information for the purpose of forwarding it to Russian special services and other institutions, VDD reports.
Channels created by the criminal organisation regularly publish invitations to collect information about Latvian officials, employees of state administration institutions and state security services, Latvian armed forces officials, Latvian citizens participating in the war in Ukraine, as well as other private and legal persons that oppose the Russian aggression.

These channels also frequently post words of support of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

VDD also noticed in the content published by Baltic Anti-Fascists Telegram channel invitations to participate in the ongoing war in Ukraine, as well as donate money to Russian troops in Ukraine.
The three suspects in this criminal case are currently under arrest. Another three are listed as persons involved in a criminal process. One of the suspects under arrest is pro-Kremlin activist Tatyana Andrijec.
VDD warns that participation in criminal activities of Baltic Anti-Fascists is a criminally punishable offence.
