Certain potential candidates who were offered the post of the director of Latvia’s Constitution Protection Bureau (SAB) have refused it, said Latvia’s President Egils Levits in an interview to Latvijas Radio programme Krustpunktā on Wednesday, 29 December.
According to him, although talks have commenced and have been carried out with several candidates, there are people who have refused the offer because the post of the head of SAB is not very attractive to them.
«There is potential, and National Security Council (NDP) will review all available candidates in due time. The process is confidential,» stresses the president, adding there are several potential candidates eyed already.
As previously noted by Levits, the range of potential candidates for the aforementioned post is very narrow. «I have to speak with all candidates from the start. I ask them if the are prepared to take on this important task. It’s my task. Once that is done, all candidates are evaluated by NDP,» Levits told journalists.
BNN previously reported this November the previous director of SAB and ex-prosecutor general Jānis Maizītis passed away at the age of 60.
