Following the holiday period, weather conditions will continue to be driven by cyclone activity. According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, the sun will mostly be obscured by clouds, with only occasional breaks in the cloud cover.
On the night into Wednesday, precipitation is expected across most of the country, and in some areas of Vidzeme, rainfall could exceed 20 mm. A yellow-level warning is in effect for heavy rain, and isolated thunderstorms are also possible.
In addition to the rain, southwesterly and westerly winds will remain gusty, reaching speeds of 20–22 m/s along the coast, before gradually easing during the day. While it will still rain at times on Wednesday, precipitation will subside overnight, allowing for drier weather on Thursday. Nighttime temperatures will generally drop to +8…+13°C. If on Wednesday temperatures stay below +20°C, then on Thursday, with sunshine, they may rise to around +22°C.
The weekend is expected to bring more rain again — most parts of the country will see rain on at least one of the days,
with the heaviest downpours likely on Friday, when a broad area of precipitation will pass over Latvia.
The Meteorology Centre also warns that on Sunday, winds will again become gusty — primarily along the coast at night, but across the whole country during the day. Nighttime temperatures will continue to hover around +10…+15°C, and daytime temperatures will remain between +15…+20°C.
Although the beginning of next week may be drier, stronger winds are still expected.
