Position gone, account up: how much has former Transport Minister Kaspars Briškens saved

Former Transport Minister Kaspars Briškens (Progressives) received 113 690 euros in remuneration from the State Chancellery last year, according to his public official’s declaration submitted to the State Revenue Service (VID) for 2024.

In addition, last year Briškens received a benefit of 9 365 euros from the State Social Insurance Agency and 3 920 euros from other income sources.

At the end of 2024, Briškens had 73 335 euros saved in non-cash deposits, which is 32 899 euros more than at the end of 2023. He also had 2 077 Swedish krona (about 181 euros) in savings.

At the end of last year, as in the previous year, Briškens owned land and buildings in Carnikava parish, two apartments in Riga, and a 2008 Volvo S80 passenger car.

He did not declare any liabilities or loans exceeding the amount of 20 minimum monthly wages as set by the Cabinet of Ministers.

It was previously reported that following the “government reset” announced by Prime Minister Evika Siliņa (New Unity) at the end of February this year, Briškens lost his position as Minister of Transport.

On the 6th of March, the Saeima approved Atis Švinka (Progressives), a former MP, as the new Minister of Transport, while Briškens was elected Chairman of the Saeima’s Economic, Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Policy Committee.
