Poor safety habits persist: public transport passengers ignore seat belts

A recent inspection of 450 intercity buses and minibuses at the start of the year revealed ongoing issues with seat belt usage in public transport, according to the State Police.

Between January and early March, police conducted checks on seat belt compliance in over 450 public transport vehicles, including intercity buses and minibuses.

During the inspections, the State Police observed that the situation with the use of seat belts in public transport is still not very good as many passengers failed to buckle up, neglecting both their own safety and that of those around them. However, positive examples were also noted, where all passengers on board were properly buckled up.

The State Police remind passengers and drivers that seat belt usage is mandatory in vehicles equipped with them.

Drivers who fail to wear a seat belt or allow an unbelted passenger to ride may face fines of 30 to 70 euros. Passengers who do not comply with seat belt regulations may receive a warning or a 15 euro fine.
