There are deputies in the Saeima that are “shaking the boat”, but they don’t want to work themselves, said New Unity board member Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica in an interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāma.
When asked how stable Prime Minister Evika Siliņa’s government is after the “restart” and how stable New Unity is internally, Kalniņa-Lukaševica said the decision by the board of the party to appoint Dace Melbārde as their candidate for the post of Minister of Education was unanimous.
Kalniņa-Lukaševica believes a new energy should be breathed into Siliņa’s government, so that it can secure greater public trust.
According to her, replacement of ministers is a classic action of western democracies in such situations.
New Unity is committed to moving towards approval of the replacement of ministers in the Saeima this Thursday. The party hopes their colleagues in the ruling coalition will agree with them. When asked why changes were not discussed before the announcement of the “restart”, Kalniņa-Lukaševica said all parties should be prepared for quick changes, stressing that there is no time for infighting, because it is necessary to work on enhancing security.
As previously reported, announcing her government’s “restart”, Evika Siliņa also announced the dismissal of three ministers: Minister of Education and Science Anda Čakša, Minister of Welfare Uldis Augulis, and Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens.
