Political researcher: Putin has two choices – dacha or graveyard

British political analyst Edward Lucas said on the Ukraine Studio TV program that Ukraine should first be given fighter jets that it can handle, writes ERR News.
Lucas pointed out that it takes years to learn how to fly Torpedoes, and it would make more sense to put MiGs or F-16s at Ukraine’s disposal, which require a much shorter training period. Poland is said to have already offered the MiG, but it was not allowed by the US.
Asked what he thought of the Kremlin’s remarks that the line between aiding and participating in the conflict is now very blurred, Lucas compared the rhetoric to Moscow’s nuclear taunting. He called for the Kremlin’s propaganda to be ignored.

«If they don’t like the idea of their territory being under threat, they should not have gone to war in the first place,»

the researcher said. He pointed out that Russia can avoid other unpleasant effects by simply withdrawing.
Lucas speculated that the war would destabilize Putin’s regime and that the Russian leader had only two options. Either he will suffer a decline like Khrushchev and go to a dacha, or the solution can be bloodier. On the other hand, Europe still lacks a strategy to knock Russia’s foundation under its feet.
There is no reason for optimism: «I think it will be worse after Putin. Perhaps we will see some kind of junta, and one of its elements will look good in the eyes of the West.» He admitted that he was worried that the West might misinterpret the changes in Russia and try to restore relations.
