Polish Defence Minister in Ādaži: NATO has never been stronger

NATO has never been stronger than it is today, said Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz during his visit to the Ādaži military base on Thursday.

In his address, the minister stated that the Baltic States and Poland would soon withdraw from the Ottawa Convention, which would strengthen the region’s defence capabilities. He emphasized that the presence of Polish troops in Latvia demonstrates Poland’s solidarity with the Baltic States and its commitment to NATO allies.

The Polish minister highlighted that the Polish contingent will remain in Latvia and noted that NATO has undergone significant changes in recent years, making the alliance more powerful. “NATO has never been this strong. We will defend NATO’s borders and continue to improve our defence capabilities,” said the Polish minister.

Latvian Defence Minister Andris Sprūds added that we are currently living in a challenging time when we must fight every day to defend democracy.

He pointed out that Ukraine is also fighting for its survival and that Western nations must continue to support the country.

Sprūds also stressed that Latvia will keep investing in defence and cooperation among NATO allies. The presence of NATO soldiers in Latvia means that people’s lives are safer and more peaceful.
