People’s verdict: Which Latvian minister has the lowest rating?

In January 2025 the Latvian minister with the lowest rating, according to popularity polls, was the now former Minister of Education and Science Anda Čakša, followed by Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens and Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens, “Diena” reports with reference to results of a survey done by “Latvijas fakti”.

Čakša’s work received a positive review from 17% of interviewed Latvian residents. 54% were negative. Briškens received a positive review from 14% of residents and negative review from 51%. Both ministers received a rating of minus 37.

Other respondents either had no opinion about these ministers or said they had never even heard of them before.

Of all of the ministers in the current Latvian government, Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže has the highest rating – plus 18 (37% positive vs. 18% negative),

followed by Minister of Culture Agnese Lāce – plus 11 (27% positive vs. 16% negative), Minister of Justice Inese Lībiņa-Egnere – plus seven (22% positive vs. 15% negative), Minister of the Interior Rihards Kozlovskis – plus seven (28% positive vs. 21% negative), Minister of Regional Development Inga Bērziņa – plus six (24% positive vs. 18% negative).

Then there is Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds with a rating of plus three (30% positive vs. 27% negative) and Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze with plus one (24% positive vs. 23% negative).

The ratings of the remaining ministers were all negative in January 2025. The rating of Minister of Health Hosams Abu Meri was minus four (35% positive vs. 39% negative). Minister of Welfare Uldis Augulis had a rating of minus six (22% positive vs. 28% negative). The rating of Minister of Climate and Energy Kaspars Melnis was minus nine (14% positive vs. 23% negative). That of Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis was minus 14 (22% positive vs. 37% negative). The rating of Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa was minus 18 (30% positive vs. 48% negative). The rating of Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens was minus 20 (19% positive vs. 39% negative).

Survey results show that respondents had no opinion about many of Latvia’s ministers. Some respondents even said they don’t know anything about Latvia’s ministers.

President Edgars Rinkēvičs’ rating was plus 45 (66% positive vs. 21% negative), whereas Saeima speaker Daiga Mieriņa’s rating was plus one (23% positive vs. 22% negative).

When announcing her government “restart” last week, Siliņa asked Anda Čakša, Uldis Augulis and Kaspars Briškens to step down from their posits in ministries.
