To agree on new cooperation principles, each coalition partner should be more compliant, said representatives of Progressive Party faction in Riga City Council after another round of negotiations.
“This is why Par/Progressive (PP) faction members refuse the seat of the head of the Social Affairs Committee,” as mentioned in the announcement.
Progressive party values the decision from New Unity to refuse the Development Committee.
Par/Progressive faction leader Mārtiņš Kossovičs invites other potential partners to make similar steps.
Progressive party believes Riga should have only one mayor and one vice-mayor.
The party explains that when composing the coalition of change, the party stood by working in the interests of Riga’s residents, not efforts to distribute seats.
“Coalition partners should focus on these tasks. This includes reduction of kindergarten and apartment queues, calming down the traffic in Riga’s centre, preparations for the heating season and investment attraction,” the party stresses.
The party plans to “continue standing in favour of good changes in Riga”.
PP notes that they are prepared to sign a cooperation memorandum if a list of priority tasks to be completed by the year 2025 is added to it.
As previously reported, all parties of the existing coalition are interested in snap elections. This is why all parties have decided to engage in negotiations to settle the matter, agree on how to move forward and avoid shaking Riga City Council even more than they already have.
