Lithuanian residents will be able to get vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine adapted to the Omicron variant starting from next week, informs National Broadcaster LRT.
However, only people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 under the primary vaccination scheme will be able to get the shots of the adapted vaccine.
Health Ministry’s spokesperson Ginreta Megelinskienė told LRT RADIO that both international organisations and experts in Lithuania recommend that the primary vaccination scheme should be followed by receiving the first dose and then a booster shot.
«As for the second booster dose, there is currently a possibility to vaccinate certain groups. These groups will be expanded, and it will be recommended [to vaccinate] everyone over the age of 18,» she added.
Megelinskienė stressed that those who have contracted Covid-19 but have not been vaccinated according to the primary scheme will not be able to receive the adapted vaccine.
«Vaccination is important, as we have already seen waves of Covid-19. The forecast is that there will be more waves to come» Health Ministry’s spokesperson said.
The first batch of 51,840 doses of Covid-19 vaccine adapted to the Omicron variant was delivered to Lithuania on Tuesday. Another 100,000 doses should be delivered next week, according to the Health Ministry.
