Official: Covid-19 certificate requirement will likely remain for some sectors in Latvian

With Latvia’s government discussing lifting Covid-19 restrictions, the requirement to present a valid Covid-19 certificate may remain for some sectors, said Prime Minister’s parliamentary secretary Evika Siliņa at a meeting of the Saeima’s Defence, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee.
She told members of the parliament what the PM said yesterday – that on 15 February the government plans to review all existing Covid-19 restrictions in Latvia. The PM also ordered the government to balance requirements with other Baltic States.
The Ministry of Health still maintains a strict position when it comes to lifting restrictions. However, politicians have other proposals. This means there are still no clear answers for how life will be after 15 February. «We can see Latvia will drop restrictions sooner or later, but the question is how and when,» added Siliņa.
It is clear now that the requirement to wear masks, under go tests and vaccinate will remain. As for regulations for services, trade and other sectors, the government will tackle this, Siliņa explained.
The official also affirmed that after the government’s decision, the requirement to present a valid Covid-19 certificate will remain in some sectors. «It is unlikely we will see any sectors that will have no certificate requirement,» added Siliņa.
As previously reported, many restrictions imposed in Latvia to limit the spread of Covid-19 will be lifted soon. However, it is important to keep in mind if this could happen before or after the end of the stat of emergency, said Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš in an interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāma.
