Latvian State Employment Agency (NVA) has received notification from multiple companies regarding plans for mass lay-offs. Most of those notifications are from transport and logistics, as well as energy sector, lsm.lv cites what NVA director Evita Simsone told Latvijas Radio.
She said NVA notices «worrying trends» for the labour market and Latvia’s economy now that costs are up.
«We have received multiple notifications regarding collective lay-offs. With that we have to think about providing effective support to the people who will soon lose their jobs,» said Simsone.
Most of the collective lay-off notifications were received from transport and logistics, as well as energy sector.
NVA director admits autumn and winter will be the most challenging seasons, considering unemployment usually increases then.
