In the first two months of 2024, a total of 2 079 newborns were registered in Latvia, which is 3.8% or 82 newborns fewer when compared to the same period of 2023, according to provisional data from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
1 071 of newborns registered in the first two months were boys and 1 008 were girls.
1 029 newborns were registered in February, which is 0.8% or eight more when compared to the same month of 2023. This includes 532 boys and 497 girls.
At the same time, there were 5 040 deaths registered in Latvia in the first two months of 2024. This is 5.4% or 285 less when compared to the first two months of 2023, when 5 325 deaths were registered.
This means that in the first two months the number of deaths exceeded the number births by 2 961 (by 3 164 in the same period a year prior).
In the first two months of 2024, there were 674 marriages registered in Latvia, which is a drop of 18.7% when compared to 2023.
Provisional data states Latvia’s population number was 1.863 million on the 1st of March.
