Weather conditions this week will be changeable — several precipitation zones will cross the country, bringing snow to many areas. As air temperatures rise, the snow will turn into sleet, and localized freezing rain is also expected, according to the Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
At night, air temperatures will drop to -7…-12°C, while along the coast and in western regions it will not be colder than -3…-8°C. During the day, temperatures will rise to +1…-2°C.
The precipitation zone will continue to move across the country on Tuesday — skies will be mostly cloudy, and until midday snow will mainly fall in central and eastern regions, with localized freezing rain possible. In some places, the snow cover will increase by 1–2 cm. In the afternoon, skies will gradually clear in some areas. Winds will be light. Minimum nighttime temperatures will range between -2…-7°C, while daytime temperatures will reach +1…-2°C.
On Wednesday, the influence of an anticyclone will strengthen — atmospheric pressure will rise,
the weather will be dry with light winds, and clouds will dissipate across much of the country. During the night into Thursday, skies will also clear in eastern regions, allowing temperatures to drop to -12…-17°C. Where cloud cover remains, temperatures at night and during Wednesday will stay within -3…-8°C, with slightly warmer conditions along the coast.
In the second half of the week, weather conditions will be determined by cyclone activity — cloud cover will increase and precipitation is expected at times, mainly in the form of snow and sleet. Both daytime and nighttime temperatures across most of the country will range between 0…+5°C, bringing a more widespread thaw. However, on some nights temperatures will still fall below 0°C. Light to moderate southerly winds will prevail, strengthening along the Kurzeme coast on Thursday and during the night into Friday, with gusts reaching up to 15 m/s.
