In the last week of 2022 multiple precipitation zones will pass through Latvia from the west. These will bring snow, wet snow and thaw at times. In the second half of the week precipitation will consist mainly of rain, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Air temperature will gradually go up. On New Year’s night air temperature will not drop below +2° C.
On Tuesday, the 27th of December, the sky will be cloudy. In many parts of the country there will be precipitation – snow that will transition into wet snow and rain. Freezing rain is possible in some areas.
This is why motorists and other road traffic participants are urged to be careful because roads and walkways will be slippery!
The wind will blow from the south-west and west, reaching a speed of up to 19 m/sec along the coast. Air temperature is expected to be the lowest at the beginning of the night, when air temperature is expected to drop to -3° C… -10° C in eastern parts of Latvia and -2° C… +3° C in western parts. At night, air temperature will gradually increase. Maximum daytime air temperature will be between 0° C… +5° C.
On the night to Wednesday the sky may clear up. During the day, however, the volume of clouds covering the sky will increase again.
It will remain overcast on Thursday, the 29th of December. With a wide cyclone approaching from the west, multiple precipitation zones will pass through the country, bringing mainly snow and wet snow to Latvia on Wednesday. On Thursday, however, precipitation in the country will consist mainly of rain and wet snow.
The wind will blow from the south this week. Wind speed may be strong along the coast on the night to Wednesday. Minimal air temperature at night is expected around +1° C… -4° C (+1° C… +3° C along the coast). Maximum daytime air temperature will reach -1° C… +4° C. On Thursday air temperature along the coast may reach up to +7° C along the coast.
At the end of the week the sky will remain cloudy. Precipitation is expected on Friday and Saturday, mainly rain. Although rain is expected to calm down on the night to Saturday, a new precipitation zone will pass through Latvia on the next day. Slow to moderate wind will remain. Air temperature is expected to stay between 0° C and +7° C at night and during the day.
According to current forecasts, some rain is expected on Sunday, the 1st of January. Wind speed will reach 15-17 m/sec along the coast. Air temperature on New Year’s night is not expected to drop below +2° C.
