National Alliance worried New Unity may be working on a new government behind the scenes

Latvian political party National Alliance (NA) wants explanations from their coalition partners New Unity (JV) about rumours that suggest the party may be preparing to compose a new government with the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) and Progressive party, said NA board member and Minister of Defence Ināra Mūrniece in an interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāma.
When asked when NA plans to meet with JV, Mūrniece said “we haven’t been invited yet”. At the same time, the politician stressed that an open discussion of this topic is needed. Based on what she said, NA will not the one to initiate discussions.

She repeated what Raivis Dzintars said – that NA is not prepared to work in the same government with JV, ZZS and Progressive party.

If the price for election of a specific presidential candidate is a new coalition model with JV, ZZS and Progressive party, NA will not participate in it, said the party’s leader Dzintars, adding that creating a new coalition would be JV’s choice.

Dzintars predicted that the NA faction will not support any of the three presidential candidates on the 31st of May.

When asked if NA could propose its own presidential candidate in the second round of elections, Dzintars said it is unknown if the election process could reach that point. At the same time, NA hopes for a second round of elections, because this way, according to Dzintars, the coalition will have to agree on a single candidate.
When asked to commend on the candidates, Dzintars said he is not negative about it, but every party evaluates candidates based on their compatibility with parties’ programmes.

NA plans to meet and discuss political topics with presidential candidates.
