National Alliance to pick Ilze Indriksone as their Minister of Economics

Political party National Alliance has decided to pick Ilze Indriksone, who currently serves as parliamentary secretary to the Ministry of Economics, as their candidate for the minister’s post, as confirmed by the party’s leader Raivis Dzintars in an interview to LTV Kas notiek Latvijā? programme.
He said that the party’s board unanimously picked Indriksone for the aforementioned post before the start of the programme. Indriksone’s candidacy was also submitted to the coalition for approval.
The party picked Indriksone to ensure succession of tasks in the ministry. Jānis Vitenbergs, on the other hand, will be invited to «stand close by», said Dzintars. He did not say if Vitenbergs could be picked for the post of the ministry’s parliamentary secretary.
In the morning on Wednesday NA did try to dissuade Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš from the decision to dismiss Vitenbergs. However, the PM was adamant in his decision. Dzinters said Kariņš’s decision to dismiss the minister is unfair and harmful, stressing that Vitenbergs «did his best» in a difficult time.
As previously reported, last week National Alliance requested dismissal of Minister of the Interior Marija Golubeva due to the police’s handling of the situation at Victory Park at the beginning of the week. NA threatened to leave the government if Golubeva remained in her post.
Golubeva announced this week that she has lost the PM’s trust, and has decided to step down. The PM also decided to counter NA’s «blackmail attempt» by requesting dismissal for Minister of Economics Jānis Vitenbergs.
