The National Alliance (NA) has selected Vice-Mayor of Riga Edvards Ratnieks for the post of Mayor of Riga. He will be the party’s leading candidate in the upcoming municipal elections, as confirmed by NA.
“Edvards Ratnieks has proven himself in his work by actively protecting national interests and advocating for a Latvian and orderly environment in the capital city. Riga needs new energy, and Ratnieks embodies it, showing himself as a purposeful, enterprising and responsible politician. At the same time, we can see that parties and politicians, whose good will we question, are looking at the Riga mayor’s seat. It is important that after the elections the capital is governed by a coalition whose values are not in doubt. National Alliance is a safe choice because we have always been and will always be on guard to protect national interests,” claims Raivis Dzintars, Chairman of the National Alliance.
“I am honoured to receive the trust from the board of the National Alliance. I have a vision to make Riga Latvian and prosperous, as well as improve the quality of life of Riga’s residents not only in the city centre, but also in the neighbourhoods,” says Vice-Mayor Edvards Ratnieks.
Already now, the residents of Riga can appreciate the work done by the Vice-Mayor in the fields of education and infrastructure –
the established and renovated educational institutions and sports infrastructure, as well as the revived Victory Park, which has regained its historical significance and for which further improvement works are already planned.
Ratnieks is also in charge of cooperation with the municipalities of Pieriga, jointly solving various economic issues, as well as providing various types of support to Ukraine in its war against the aggressor – whether it is the allocation of vehicles for Ukraine’s needs or support to the Ukrainian civilian population, the political party says.
Edvards Ratnieks received a vocational Master’s degree in law and a lawyer’s qualification from the University of Latvia. Since November 2022, Ratnieks has been a member of the Riga City Council, and previously had work experience in the Riga municipality.
