Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians agree to ceasefire due to Azerbaijan military operation

Armenians in the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan have accepted a Russian ceasefire proposal on the 20th of September, a day after Azerbaijan initiated a military operation to gain control of the area where dozens have been killed and hundreds injured, reports Reuters.
Armenian separatist forces in Karabakh, also known as the Republic of Artsakh, announced a ceasefire on Wednesday after Azerbaijan advanced through their lines, seizing strategically important areas.
The report said that “an agreement was reached through the leadership of the Russian peacekeeping contingent deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh on a complete

cessation of hostilities as of 13:00 on the 20th of September 2023.”

The decision was taken in the light of concerns about the situation in the region.
BNN already reported that Azerbaijan launched a military operation against Nagorno-Karabakh on Tuesday, the 19th of September, in response to the killing of some of its soldiers. Nagorno-Karabakh is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan.
