“My Latvia. My responsibility.” National Guard invites residents to consider what is most important

In preparation for the Day of the Restoration of Latvian Independence, the Commander of the National Guard, Brigadier General Kaspars Pudāns invites Latvian residents both on the holiday and their everyday life to remember and remind to each other that the responsibility for Latvia’s security starts with each one of them.
It is for this purpose Latvian National Guard has created the motto “My Latvia. My responsibility.”, which they plan to use to motivate Latvian residents to think about protecting what we hold dear, and that the country’s today and tomorrow, prosperity and existence depends on each individual person’s actions.

“There are more than two million reasons to love Latvia – family and friends, hockey and song celebration, sea and fields, blue lakes and green woods, the sound of language and breath of freedom.

There are as many reasons to protect Latvia, and each of them can be described in four words: My Latvia. My responsibility,” comments Pudāns.
He notes there is a million ways to make Latvia strong. “The National Guard and troops are prepared to defend Latvia from the first second, the first centimetre. Every Latvian resident can do it by joining Latvian National Guard or by supporting armed forces in training and everyday activities by doing their jobs, by taking care of their resilience in the information space and preparedness for various threats or any of the more than two million reasons that compose Latvia for each of us,” says the commander of the National Guard.
“My Latvia. My responsibility.” is the motto proposed by the National Guard for comprehensive national defence that reminds every Latvian resident about their responsibility to protect Latvia and all that is dear to them.
It could become a motto for every Latvian resident, reminding them not only of our shared, but also every person’s personal responsibility to protect Latvia, says Pudāns.
This is why the National Guard invite residents to use this motto in their everyday lives, share it, live, work and celebrate with it to remind people of our Latvia, its today and tomorrow, everything we are proud of and love. We are all responsible together and individually.
The National Guard have already sent invitations to municipal education institutions to include this motto to their holiday content for the 4th of May and motivate children and youngsters to discuss and describe what “My Latvia. My responsibility.” means to them.
